Lovely hotel, with magnificent view
We have stayed for 3 nights at Expo Hotel while on our Europe trip. The Hotel is old and basic, but it is centrally located and very convenient. On the plus side the room although was small but clean and was located up on the 9th floor affording a fine view of Montjuic with its Olympic Buildings and Beautiful Museum of Catalonian Art which lights up at night with perch lights. Courteous and efficient staff was always eager to please. The highlight was the roof terrace with an outdoor pool with terrific views over Barcelona, just the place to unwind with a cold drink from the bar after a hard days sightseeing. We had a very lovely stay at Expo Hotel. |

On first sight the outside of the hotel is a little ordinary but the inside more than makes up for it. The staff were helpful and pleasant though their English wasn't too good in most cases and I was glad for my schoolgirl Spanish, though Catalan is spoken here which is a strange mixture of Spanish/French/Portuguese. The rooms I would rate 3 star not four as they were quite basic but very clean. Food was excellent in the restaurant. Main complaint was, after our journey there we were gasping for a cup of tea but there was no kettle!! There was however a mini bar of which the prices were quite reasonable - but I did miss my early morning cuppa!! |

The last time I went to Barcelona, I preferred to stay close to Las Ramblas and the hotel we got was really lousy, and we paid much more than for Expo Hotel. This time I chose to stay 10min(with metro) from Las Ramblas, and we had quite a nice experience at the Expo Hotel. The staff was really helpful when we had something to ask about, I think the location of the hotel was just perfect, and compared to other hotels i Barcelona, it was really cheap. Close to all sorts of transport(bus, metro, train, turist bus++)Linea 3 to Placa Catalunya runs every three minutes, so there's not much waiting. Fantastic view from the top of the hotel to Palau Nacional and Montjüic, and it's just a short walk away from Nou Camp, where Barca plays their games. |

Take no notice of the external view of this hotel, it hasnt been updated ever, the internal is excellent as it was (as with the rest of barcelona) upgraded for the Olympic games, marble floors and walls, & clean throughout, location is great for train and metro, although 20 min walk to la Ramblas, continental breakfast, pool on the roof provides good views, good base for tourist. |

Hotel was very clean, comfortable, pool on the roof was a real bonus to cool off in. Didn't try the breakfast - cafe, supermarket, bakery underneath!!
Bar and Pizzeria over the road. In a great spot: Tour bus stops in front of railway station, metro 3 mins walk - 10 mins into the centre. 20 mins from the airport. "Magic Fountains" only a ten minute walk. A very enjoyable stay, would definately stay here again. |
