25 minutes from the El Dorado international airport. Modern skyscrapers, shopping centers and cultural venues, contrasted with open-air markets and villages, characterize Bogot, the capital of Colombia.
It was in Laguna de Guatavita, just northeast of the city, that the El Dorado myth was born, but most modern visitors stick to treasures in neighbourhoods like Plaza Bolivar, Zona Rosa, or La Candelaria, the oldest of the three.
Each area offers visitors a chance to see colonial architecture like the churches of Santa Clara and San Ignacio.
